How to behave around other people's cars

Ask before touching

Including the door handle, including the hood, including "just leaning in to see the gauges." Belt buckles and zippers scratch paint.

Shoot the details

Everyone has the three-quarter shot. Get the badge, the shifter, the wheel, the tire lettering. That's what people remember.

Talk to the owner

The story is always better than the spec sheet. Ask what it needed when they got it. Every one of them needed something.
